Product Description

2,3-Dihydroxypropanesulphonic acid (CAS 10296-76-1), commonly abbreviated as DHPS, is a high-performance hydrophilic intermediate. It is an alkanesulfonic acid derivative containing two hydroxyl groups and one sulfonic acid group. This unique structure makes it an excellent chain extender for waterborne polymers and a functional additive in surface finishing.

Unlike traditional carboxyl-based extenders (like DMPA), the sulfonic acid group in DHPS provides superior water solubility, emulsification properties, and chemical stability, particularly in acidic or high-salinity environments.

Applications & Uses

• Waterborne Polyurethanes (PUDs): Acts as a hydrophilic chain extender in the synthesis of anionic waterborne polyurethanes. It introduces sulfonate groups into the polymer backbone, allowing for the creation of high-solid-content dispersions with excellent storage stability and fast drying times. It is often used as a superior alternative to DMPA (Dimethylolpropionic acid).

• Electroplating Intermediate: Used in the formulation of electroplating additives, particularly for copper and nickel plating, where it helps improve the solubility of other organic additives and enhances the deposition quality.

• Coatings & Adhesives: Improves the adhesion and hydrolysis resistance of water-based coatings and adhesives.
