Usage
This product is mainly used as a raw material for sebacate plasticizer and nylon molding resin, and can also be used as a raw material for high temperature lubricating oil. The main ester products are methyl ester, isopropyl ester, butyl ester, octyl ester, decyl ester and benzyl ester. The usual esters are dibutyl sebacate and dioctyl sebacate.
1. Plasticizers:
Sebacic acid is a precursor to various sebacate esters, like dibutyl sebacate and dioctyl sebacate, which act as plasticizers for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other resins.
These plasticizers enhance flexibility and workability of the polymers, especially in cold temperatures.
2. Polymers:
Sebacic acid is a monomer used in the synthesis of nylon 610 and other polyamide resins.
It’s also a component in alkyd resins, used in paints and coatings.
It can be used in polyurethane production.
3. Lubricants:
Sebacic acid and its esters are used in high-temperature lubricating oils and greases.
It can also be found in hydraulic fluids.
4. Other Applications:
Cosmetics: Sebacic acid can act as a pH corrector in cosmetic formulations.
Candles: It can be used in candle manufacturing.
Antiseptics and Aromatics: It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of some antiseptics and fragrances.
Adhesives: Sebacic acid and its derivatives are used in adhesives and sealants.
Corrosion Retardants: It can act as a corrosion inhibitor.
